Crucible lid rope is a specialist packing constructed from a resilient core of tough synthetic EP rubber, braided over with glass fibre yarns, bonded and coated with a tough silicone rubber. The external silicone rubber will support more on vacuum sealing and the internal core with rubber will perform better on resiliency.
The Tianjin Tuolin Technology crucible lid rope’s primary usage is to seal the vacuum over the molten aluminum in crucibles. The molten aluminum temperature is around 700C - 800C. The crucible lid packing is fitted between lid and crucible body and effectively seals the vacuum for the life of the packing, no velocity or turbulence across the seal. Vacuum conditions that Crucible lid rope has been successfully utilized in are -7.5 and -9bar pressure on crucible lid applications. Especially in the temperature of 300C, no chemical or abrasion issues when the crucibles lid rope is used.
This non-asbestos product has been thoroughly tested in many aluminum smelters and is now specified by them for this application.
With the difference in technologies used in some smelters, there are cases where the seal area is at too high a temperature for crucible lid rope; in these cases alternative constructions are available for the more arduous conditions.
