1.Why the ceramic fiber could heat insulate in high temperature?
The ceramic fiber could be classified by its using temperature in 1100℃, 1260℃, 1350℃. This means that the ceramic fiber could be used max in more than 1100C environment. But the heat insulation performance comes from it’s inter hollow structure. Like the picture below showed, there are more than 90% is hollow in the ceramic fiber. It means that the 90% space in the ceramic fiber is air. The air plays the role of heat insulation.
Compared with the asbestos, the ceramic fiber could be used in more than 1000℃, but the asbestos will be powder when the temperature rise up to 650℃. And the ceramic fiber is much lighter than asbestos because of its 90% hollow structure. The client will save a lot when used the ceramic fiber instead of asbestos.
By the way, we have to explain that the air is a very good at heat insulation performance. The thermal conductivity of air is only 0.0247 W/m·K in 0℃. At the same time the thermal conductivity of water is 0.552, steel is 73.08 and the copper is 385.12. Copper is very good at heat conduction.
So we could see that, considering the cost of ceramic fiber, ceramic fiber is the best substitute for asbestos. That’s why we use the ceramic fiber to make textiles to replace asbestos. Like fabric, tape, braided rope, twisted rope, and sleeve. We could use a little ceramic fiber to replace asbestos. All of these textiles will be much lighter when we need to achieve the same thermal insulation performance.
2.What kind of ceramic fiber we used in our textiles.
As we have written in the beginning of this articles, the ceramic fiber could be classified by its using temperature in 1100℃, 1260℃, 1350℃. We called it classification temperature which is used to distinguish the different high temperature fiber. Usually the working temperature is about 200℃ less than the classification temperature. For example, if we called one kind of the ceramic fiber’s classification temperature is 1100℃, its working temperature is only 900℃. For the client’s requirement, they need the working temperature should be above 1000℃. So the type of classification temperature is 1100℃ is not right for the clients. And if the client requires working temperature not as high as 1100℃, we will not use the type of classification temperature in 1350℃, as it is more expensive.
In general, we use the type of classification temperature in 1260℃ as our normal ceramic fiber textiles. And we announced our ceramic fiber textiles’ working temperature is 1050℃.
