Ceramic fiber is a fibrous light refractory material; the main chemical composition is aluminum silicate. According to its mineral components it can be divided into glassy state fiber and polycrystalline crystal fiber. The glassy fiber is an amorphous solid fiber formed by the molten liquid flow in the cooling. The polycrystalline crystal fiber is formed by colloid injection (or throw silk method) and calcined at high temperature.
Ceramic fiber is widely used in various types of thermal furnace insulation and high temperature resistant materials. Because of its bulk density is much lower than other refractory materials, so the storage heat is very small, this leads insulation effect obviously. As the lining material, ceramic fiber can greatly reduce the thermal furnace energy loss, in the energy-saving aspects for the thermal furnace has brought a revolution. On the other hand, its application techniques and methods also bring about a change in the masonry of the thermal kiln.
1.What is the application of ceramic fiber?
Ceramic fiber first appeared in 1941, the United States Company Babcock & Wilcox used natural kaolin and after electric arc furnace melting into the fiber. In the late 1940s, two US companies produced aluminum silicate fibers and used them in the aviation industry for the first time. In the 1960s, the United States developed a variety of ceramic fiber products and used in industrial furnace lining. In the 1970s, ceramic fiber began to be used and produced in Chinese market, and its application technology was rapidly promoted in the 1980s. However, the main use temperature range is below 1000℃, and the application technology is simple and backward. After the 1990s, with the promotion of zirconium fiber and polycrystalline alumina fiber developed, the use of temperature increased to 1000℃ ~ 1400℃. But due to product quality defects and application technology backward, application areas and application methods are subject to limited. For instance, polycrystalline alumina fiber use of temperature has been increased, but its intensity is poor, limited the use of the scope, also shorten the service life.
2. The category of the ceramic fiber.
Ceramic fiber varieties are: ordinary aluminum silicate fiber, aluminum aluminosilicate fiber, aluminum silicate fiber (including Cr2O3, ZrO2 or B2O3), polycrystalline alumina fiber and polycrystalline mullite fiber. In recent years, European countries have successfully developed some new ceramic fiber varieties, such as: forsterite fiber, ceramic fiber (SiO2-CaO-MgO and Al2O3-CaO system) and so on. Ceramic fiber products are mainly: ceramic fiber yarn, ceramic fiber cloth, ceramic fiber tape, ceramic fiber twisted rope and so on.
So the ceramic fiber is the development direction of refractory material right now.
