On the surface of ceramic fiber yarn, it is very simple. It is only combined by the ceramic fiber, fiberglass and stainless steel wire. But please read the next our analysis for you.
1. Ceramic fiber
Based on the different composition, just only minor differences on the composition, there are 3 kinds of ceramic fiber. The classification temperature of them is 1100C, 1260C and 1400C.
Mainstream ceramic fiber on the market is type of 1260C, its working temperature is 1000C. But if it is used by type of 1100C, its working temperature is only 900C. And the cost could be reduced 20%. The customer usually could not distinguish them at room temperature, 1260C & 1100C types are different in high temperature.
2. Binder fiber
The binder fiber should be used when spinning the ceramic fiber yarn.
There are also 3 types of binder fiber we could use, they are viscose, polyester and polypropylene fiber.
For the viscose fiber, it is the best of them. It could make the ceramic fiber textiles no odor when used. And the ceramic fiber textiles have a longer working life when used the viscose as binder fiber. But the viscose is the most expensive of them. Its price is 2 to 3 times the other two types.
For the polyester fiber, it is the cheapest one of them. This is its only advantage. Yes, when you used the polyester as binder fiber, the ceramic fiber textiles will usually emit a bad smell. This is from burning polyester. And the ceramic fiber textiles will usually harden after high temperature used. This is also from polyester burned. But we have to admit that a lot of markets used the polyester as binder fiber, just because it is cheaper.
For the polypropylene fiber, its price is 10~20% higher than polyester. And it also emits a bad smell when burning. But the ceramic fiber textiles will not too much harden after high temperature used. I think this is why some small European and American markets choose polypropylene as binder fiber. But most European markets prefer viscose as the majority choice.
3. Glass fiber
The glass fiber yarn is mixed during the spinning. Because the glass fiber yarn could supply strength, make the yarn stronger. Then single filament could be plied to 2 or 3. For example, the 1000x2 yarn is used 2 1000tex yarn plied.
There are 2 types of glass fiber yarn we could choose. They are C-glass and E-glass.
The E-glass fiber filament is the best choice for us. Because it’s working temperature is 550C. When the ceramic fiber textiles have only glass fiber reinforcement, this will supply more working life. But its price is expensive.
The C-glass fiber filament is cheaper; its price is only half of E-glass fiber filament. And its strength is stronger than the E-glass, as C-glass is usually used in the construction industry. But C-glass fiber filament’s working temperature is less than 400C. So we could not use C-glass fiber filament as single reinforcement in the ceramic fiber textiles.
4. Stainless steel wire
Because the E-glass fiber filament’s working temperature is only 550C, we should add stainless steel wire to make the ceramic fiber textiles work better in high temperature, like more than 700C environment.
There are 5 types of stainless steel wire could be used in the reinforcement of ceramic fiber textiles. They are SUS201, SUS304, SUS310, SUS316, Nichrome wire.
For the SUS201, it is the cheapest of them. And all the performances are the worst of them. Usually the customers choose it just because of its price.
For the SUS304 stainless steel wire, this is the normal one we used a lot. Its strength, working temperature and all the other performance meet the general requirement. We used it as default choice in the orders.
For the SUS310/SUS316, they are nearly the same. Its working temperature is a little higher than the SUS304. May different customers choose the different wires? When we used the 310 or 316 wires, the ceramic fiber textiles’ cost will increase about 15%. This also could be accepted by those customers.
For the Nichrome wire, it is the most expensive wire we have used. When we used this wire, the ceramic fiber textiles’ cost almost doubled. But we also admit that Nichrome wire has higher working temperature and strength and other performance when customer used it. There is an old saying in China, the higher the price, the better the quality.
According to the analysis above, if we selected all the cheapest raw material, the price would be nearly half the usual. But its quality is much worse than the normal. And this kind of ceramic fiber textiles’ working life is also 50% than the usual. I don’t think wise customer will choose this worst product. And we will never produce this kind of products. We will always chase producing best products forever.
